It is often believed that during high school, everyone changes, wither it’s in a good way or a bad way, we all change. I was that typical high school cheerleader that didn’t care about her grades, I just wanted to have fun with friends and brush by school with C’s, but I was okay with it during those times. It was the beginning of senior year, when we had re-tryouts for the cheer team. I was nervous when the try-out day came along, but I had confidence in myself. I was waiting in the try-out line until I heard my number being called. â€Å"Number 33 is up next† yelled one of the judges. I started sweating before I walked onto the stage. It was dead silent, I could feel the heat of the spotlight and the eyes of the judges all over me.†¦show more content†¦During halftime, my mom came down to talk to me. â€Å"Tori why are you sitting out?† said mom. I was upset with myself and I wanted to go home, but I knew my mom was going to want to talk to me about school. After the game was over, I got a ride with some friends and they took me home. I walked into my house and it was very dim, there was one lamp on, I could barely see my mom sitting in the corner of the living room on her phone. â€Å"I don’t like how you’re not caring about your grades; it’s your senior year and colleges are going to be looking at your applications.† said Mom. â€Å"You didn’t go to college, why is it a big deal for me to go?† I replied. â€Å"Because I want you to be better than me† said Mom. â€Å"I’m trying mom† I answered, as I slowly walked towards my room to get the conversation over with. â€Å"No you’re not† Mom replied. â€Å"I’ll try harder, I promise† I said, ending the conversation. College Essay An Honorary Lost Boy free essay sample

â€Å"Leave him alone!† I screamed at a greasy, pudgy-faced boy. His face fell as I stared him down, daring him to say anything. The boy stuttered, shocked by my assertiveness. Afraid the next word he’d say would be his last, he ran off with his slender, freckled friend. The playground was a battleground for elementary school kids. Those who were bigger and stronger preyed upon the weak, using their unkind words as bullets to tear through their hearts. I had been on the swings, kicking back and forth to go higher and higher until I heard loud laughter coming from the left. I looked over to see a duo of buffoons shouting obscenity at a dirty blond, shy child. I dug my feet into the ground to stop the swings and stomped my way over to the group. Staring them down, my brows furrowed. â€Å"Stop that!† I cry, hands on hips. A small voice behind me says, â€Å"thanks†. I turn, my frown turns into a small smile. â€Å"Kevin, what would you do without me?† I say smugly. I was Kevin’s protector, his guardian. Though I was only 15 minutes older, I felt a need to defend my twin. My family decided to attend a local fair, the Bluefish Festival. I was mesmerized by it all. I had attended the fair with my friend, Meghan, and my parents gave us a few dollars for food, trinkets, and games, making us promise to be back in a few hours. After we made a complete run of the entire establishment and scoped out all of the activities, we were ready to leave. Making our way to my parents, I began to notice the panic and fear in their body language. Acknowledging my presence, my parents ran up to Meghan and me and inquired if we had seen my brother, Kevin, anywhere. We answered no, obviously not the answer they were looking for. We began asking around, wondering if anyone had seen a small boy with dirty blonde hair and a red shirt. The search was so unsuccessful that we asked the band to make an announcement. My stomach filled with unease and I sobbed loudly while Meghan awkwardly stood next to me. I had failed to protect him. I was Peter Pan who couldn’t keep his Lost Boys safe. About a half an hour later, a policeman said he found a port-o-potty that had a high-pitched cry coming from within. Sprinting to the bathroom area, my mom tapped on the door and asked, â€Å"Kev, are you in there?† The door’s sign went from â€Å"occupied† to â€Å"open† within seconds as my brother raced out of it, tears streaming down his face. That was the first time I actually hugged my brother. He told my mom that he couldn’t find us, so he ran to the port-o-potty and locked himself in; we were just relieved he was okay. I have always felt a sense of protectiveness over my brother. I have learned from these years of living and learning about him that he was not a frail individual who could not care for himself, he is strong and brave. There have even been points in my life where Kevin has saved me from countless predicaments. Taking the blame for my misdeeds like when I broke my mother’s favorite vase, putting up with my embarrassing teasing, and even giving up his belongings just to make me happy. Being with him for almost two decades now, I can honestly say that not a day goes by where we don’t worry about the other, but there is always an absolute chance we have each other’s back.

Teachers Essay Example For Students

Teachers Essay Teachers Essay of the 21st century, like those of the past, are not only teachers of subjects such as math, English, or science. Teachers are role models, confidants, and continual learners. To prepare our students for their future, we must also teach many more basic concepts. One of the greatest challenges of preparing students will be teaching them to express their opinions and beliefs without the fear that they will be scorned. If a student is allowed to express their own multicultural views, they may be more open to understanding others. Counseling is an invaluable part of the school. Students need to have any emotional problems addressed quickly and effectively. Anger does not have to lead to violence, but instead to drawing, talking, and writing about the problem. Get students involved in extra-curricular activities. Learning does not stop when the final bell rings. Activities such as art, music, sports, and volunteering time can foster a new learning environment. Students will be taught the value of teamwork, patience, citizenship, honesty, and respect. The role of the teacher as a coach and even parent make lasting impressions on students. In the classroom, students should develop organizational and study skills. We need to encourage independent critical thinkers, who at the same time, are not afraid to ask questions. Students will be teachers to other students teamwork inside and out of the classroom. Students of the 21st century are exactly that, our future. As teachers, we teach both subject matter and character development. Everything we do, both in and out of the classroom should develop and inspire confident attitudes, high expectations and goals, and help guide our children towards a career of their own. According to Don Patterson, a member of the Albuquerque, New Mexico School Board that tried and rejected year round schooling, Short term memory loss is very acute. Studies show that the only discernible summer loss occurs in the first two to three weeks. So, by introducing all these multiple breaks, all youre doing is maximizing forgetting. It has also been proven that forgetting and relearning are part of the learning process. We will write a custom essay on Teachers specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Gaps in students learning begin with loss of context retention in the subject area, which begins within 24-48 hours, unless the new information is reinforced or applied immediately. After a month without reinforcement, about 80% of what a student has learned is recently lost. Research indicates what we retain depends on student motivation and teacher-effectiveness and isnt limited to a time factor (Time to Learn). It is quite obvious that YRE does not improve the learning process, as those who support YRE claim. Supporters of the year round school system believe there are many benefits in the program for students and teachers. Advocates of YRE say families have greater flexibility in planning vacations that often cost less. Parents that support YRE feel that the shorter, more frequent vacations allowed students to remain focused and enthusiastic (Prisoners of Time). Angie Maniscalco, a 5th grade student at Fairmount Elementary in St. Louis, says, Kids should go to school nine weeks and be off three because, kids get bored in the summer. They get sick of swimming every single day going skating or basically doing anything. I go to school for nine weeks, then get off three (Should Schools). Supporters also believe parents who are working outside the home can take advantage of year-round care for their children. Teachers that support the idea of YRE feel that the more frequent breaks reduce burnout, and that the frequent breaks during the school year enable teachers to visit and learn from other programs and other teachers (Prisoners of Time). Those against YRE have different views about what year-round schooling will do for the students and the teachers. In year round schools, middle, elementary and high school students often have different schedules. While vacationing in the off-season may work well, when children are on different schedules, vacations can be more of a problem. YRE can certainly disrupt family life. With different ages of students, vacations are difficult to schedule. For example, children on non-traditional schedules may miss out on Boy Scout Camp, because their summer vacation falls in the month of August and the activity is programmed for July. School activities can suffer as well. One study found that band, chorus, drama, and student government were particularly hit hard (Never Ending School). While there may be some benefits to YRE, it is obvious that there are many situations where the year round calendar will cause confusion in the lives of those involved. Perhaps the most debated issue in YRE is that of the achievement scores. Supporters of YRE claim that student performance in year round schools is much greater. They believe that year round schools will yield higher achievement scores that traditional schools. Many advocates for YRE claim there are studies by the National Association for Year Round Education that report that year round schools have a very positive impact on student grades. Although supporters boast high achievement scores on tests, and higher student grades, those against YRE disagree (Year Round Education: Is). Critics of YRE say there is no evidence for higher academic gains under YRE as compared to traditional schools. Studies and test scores repeatedly show little improvement by students in year round schools. When test scores do increase, many educators hesitate to attribute increases to the new calendar (Time to Learn). .u495979e806954e751f5b2d42cff4695b , .u495979e806954e751f5b2d42cff4695b .postImageUrl , .u495979e806954e751f5b2d42cff4695b .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u495979e806954e751f5b2d42cff4695b , .u495979e806954e751f5b2d42cff4695b:hover , .u495979e806954e751f5b2d42cff4695b:visited , .u495979e806954e751f5b2d42cff4695b:active { border:0!important; } .u495979e806954e751f5b2d42cff4695b .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u495979e806954e751f5b2d42cff4695b { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u495979e806954e751f5b2d42cff4695b:active , .u495979e806954e751f5b2d42cff4695b:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u495979e806954e751f5b2d42cff4695b .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u495979e806954e751f5b2d42cff4695b .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u495979e806954e751f5b2d42cff4695b .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u495979e806954e751f5b2d42cff4695b .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u495979e806954e751f5b2d42cff4695b:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u495979e806954e751f5b2d42cff4695b .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u495979e806954e751f5b2d42cff4695b .u495979e806954e751f5b2d42cff4695b-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u495979e806954e751f5b2d42cff4695b:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Kubla Khan (532 words) Essay Many of these studies, have been conducted by the National Association for Year Round Education (NAYRE), a highly biased organization, whose consultants earn significant amounts of income by promotion YRE. When test scores do increase, many educators hesitate to attribute increases to the new calendar (Time to Learn). .u2e4a4bcd84f1f4080696e31c09c653d7 , .u2e4a4bcd84f1f4080696e31c09c653d7 .postImageUrl , .u2e4a4bcd84f1f4080696e31c09c653d7 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u2e4a4bcd84f1f4080696e31c09c653d7 , .u2e4a4bcd84f1f4080696e31c09c653d7:hover , .u2e4a4bcd84f1f4080696e31c09c653d7:visited , .u2e4a4bcd84f1f4080696e31c09c653d7:active { border:0!important; } .u2e4a4bcd84f1f4080696e31c09c653d7 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u2e4a4bcd84f1f4080696e31c09c653d7 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u2e4a4bcd84f1f4080696e31c09c653d7:active , .u2e4a4bcd84f1f4080696e31c09c653d7:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u2e4a4bcd84f1f4080696e31c09c653d7 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u2e4a4bcd84f1f4080696e31c09c653d7 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u2e4a4bcd84f1f4080696e31c09c653d7 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u2e4a4bcd84f1f4080696e31c09c653d7 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u2e4a4bcd84f1f4080696e31c09c653d7:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u2e4a4bcd84f1f4080696e31c09c653d7 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u2e4a4bcd84f1f4080696e31c09c653d7 .u2e4a4bcd84f1f4080696e31c09c653d7-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u2e4a4bcd84f1f4080696e31c09c653d7:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Pearl harbor Essay Many of these studies, have been conducted by the National Association for Year Round Education (NAYRE), a highly biased organization, whose consultants earn significant amounts of income by promotion YRE. Water Resource Plan, Point Source water pollution

Water Resource Plan, Point Source water pollution Free Online Research Papers The water resource issue I selected was point source pollution-water pollution. Water pollution originated from the birth of human civilization. Human waste was the first pollutant that contributed to how our water system is today. In time human waste has sought its way through to bodies of water all over the world. Many pollutants that have made their way into the earth’s water include oil, garbage, sewage, debris, fertilizers and chemicals. Personally, I believe that a sustainment plan that could alleviate the water pollution problem will take years to implement and extreme educational efforts. In my efforts to create a sustainment plan to alleviate water pollution involves many steps. Primarily, the world needs to understand the effects that can be produced by water pollution if not already taking effect. Water pollution effects can include but not limited to waterborne infectious diseases, nutrient pollution, chemical contamination, marine debris, thermal pollution and a cost to consumers. In my sustainment plan I would issue warnings to educate the population of the effects of water pollution by television, pamphlets, and radio. A presentation will also be proposed in person to all individuals outlining with photographs, actual stories and how the world’s budget could be affected by lone term cleanup efforts. Efforts to educate population would be made available to all within the community as well as advocating other communities for this special emergency education. At this time there is a bit of difficulty finding opposing viewpoints to water pollution. I believe that people are aware of water pollution but in some instances just do not know how to make a positive impact on the earth to assist in reducing or stopping the pollution. Unfortunately, there are people out there who do not care of the cost physically, environmentally and monetarily. Executives of Texas Oil and Gathering, Inc were arrested and tried in court of law for the illegal dumping of crude oil. These men did not care of the effects that the dumping would take on the earth. This action possibly has caused some major damage for fresh drinking water availability. A problem that results in water pollution is animal waste. Animal waste is collected through sewer drains and other forms of run-off. This poses an added problem to the water pollution because animals usually stay outside. To assist in the prevention of water pollution, some cities have imposed strict city ordinances making all dog walkers in parks to collect animal waste and discard appropriately. There are many challenges that I may be faced with in order to implement my plan. One challenge that I have to face is being very well educated with all the aspects of water pollution. Personally, I need to reach deep down inside and clearly state my thoughts on the issue at hand and the inevitable. People need to understand the delicate details that are embedded around water pollution. As far as limitations go the only setback that I see can be that of funding. Funding plays an intricate role in the ability to deliver the education of water pollution. Some people may be open to receive this information with thoughts of making a better effort towards positively affecting water pollution. My plan affects the community in a vast way because realistically the world as a whole will be affected as well. In order to reduce the cost to consumer together we all have to engage this issue with the utmost urgency. Jobs are the way of life in this day in age; people must know the importance of preventing water pollution to safeguard our children’s futures and generations to come. One topic that people need to view is the likelihood of resource depletion in regards to water pollution. If we keep on pollution our water sources there is a large chance that we will not be able to eat fish or for that matter even drink water. These resources are needed to ensure the life of humans and animals on this earth. Lifestyles can change due to the affects of water pollution. In the future, it may be unsafe or impossible to swim in bodies of water. This indeed would open up a new assortment of disadvantages to our way of life. Acting now and continuing the education of the human popula tion will assist in slowing down pollution as well as reaching the goal of stopping it completely. References Jones, S.
